College of Design alumni, faculty artists are part of Art Week Des Moines
Art Week Des Moines kicks off today, June 16, and runs through Thursday, June 22. Nine Iowa State University College of Design alumni and faculty members are part of this year’s genre-blending celebration of local art and artists anchored by host sites in the Des Moines metro area.
- Artwork by art and visual culture associate professor Barbara Walton (BFA 1991 Art & Design / MA 1993 Art & Design) will be part of the Grand Re-Opening + Annual Landscape Show Reception at Olson-Larsen Galleries
- Today, June 16, 5–8 p.m.
- Alumnus Cameron Gray (MFA 2020 Integrated Visual Arts) will host “Black Cinema + Art | A multimedia collaboration” at xBk Live
- Saturday, June 17, noon–4:30 p.m.
- 5ive Years – A Solo Exhibition of Works by Becky Beckett, at 160h4 PoPuP Gallery, will feature work by alumna Becky Beckett (BFA 1999 Art and Design)
- Sunday, June 18, 1–7 p.m.
- Olivia Valentine, associate professor of art and visual culture, will host an album release celebration and performance for “Between Systems and Grounds: The Overshot Sessions,” her collaborative album with composer Paula Matthusen, at the Fitch Building
- Sunday, June 18, 2–5 p.m.
- Alumnus Jessica Villegas (BFA 2011 Integrated Studio Arts) will perform “Plantasy” at Art Terrarium
- Sunday, June 18, 2:30–3:30 p.m.
- Alumnus Teri Templeton Cadman (BFA 1994 Art & Design) will show her artwork and invite attendees to paint at the “Color of Joy Project” and Open Studio in room #211 at Mainframe Studios
- Monday, June 19, noon–7 p.m.
- Cadman’s work will be for sale during the Craft Art Market at Big Grove Brewery
- Wednesday, June 21, 5–8 p.m.
- Brenda Jones, University Professor of art and visual culture, will jury the Iowa Exhibited exhibition at the Polk County Heritage Gallery
- Opening reception Thursday, June 22, 6:30 p.m., with award ceremony at 7 p.m.
- Alumna Alyson O’Hara (BFA 2020 Graphic Design) will perform her one-woman show “Hose Water” at TeeHee’s Comedy Club
- Saturday, June 24, 1:30–3:00 p.m.
- Artwork by alumnus Jameson Malone (BA 2019 Biological/Pre-medical Illustration) is displayed on the Keo Way billboard located along the southbound lane of Keo Way just north of the I-235 overpass. His work will be displayed through June 30.
