Mixed-media work by ISU integrated visual arts graduate student Elizabeth Reeves on display in thesis exhibition April 5-14

04/04/23

AMES, Iowa — Elizabeth Reeves, an Iowa State University graduate student in integrated visual arts, will share a collection of interactive and mixed-media work exploring negative space, depth, line and light in eir master of fine arts thesis exhibition April 5–14 at the ISU College of Design.

Reeves’ show, “WTLI: Where the Light Is,” will be open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m. weekdays in Gallery 181, located on the first floor of the Design building on the west side of the Iowa State campus. A closing reception will be from 4:30–7:30 p.m. Friday, April 14.

“My art is a recollection of memories about my experiences, influences and stories I’ve heard,” Reeves says in eir artist’s statement. “I play with the duality of light, darkness and typography to create illusionistic aspects through mixed media — curious forms, shapes and puzzles that play with negative space.”

Over the past three years, Reeves says, ey have added depth to eir work through darkness or shadow and incorporated interaction with the viewer and/or the environment through touch or movement.

About the artist
