Jill Lerner, principal with global design firm KPF Associates, to speak at ISU architecture department's fall celebration

AMES, Iowa — Jill Lerner, FAIA, a principal at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), will talk about KPF's work, structure and development into a global design firm in a lecture Friday, Sept. 11, at the ISU College of Design.
Lerner's presentation, "Architecture for the Public – A Global Practice," is part of Architecture Premiere 15, the annual celebration of the new academic year in the ISU Department of Architecture.
The event will begin with a student scholarship and awards ceremony at 4:30 p.m., followed by Lerner's talk at about 5:30 p.m. in Kocimski Auditorium, 101 College of Design.
The evening will conclude with a reception at about 6:30 p.m. in the college's Gallery 181 and Lyle E. Lightfoot Forum. "Rome Show 2015," an exhibition of work by 37 architecture and 11 landscape architecture students who participated in the spring 2015 College of Design Rome Program, will be on display in the gallery. Refreshments will be served.

With offices in New York City, London, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Abu Dhabi, KPF is known internationally for creating buildings and spaces that respond to community, context and environment. Lerner will share examples of the firm’s award-winning work, which includes more than 100 projects certified or pursuing green building certification and encompasses corporate, hospitality, residential, academic, civic, transportation and mixed-use projects in more than 35 countries.
She also will describe her path as an architect, her role at KPF and her leadership within the profession at large.
With more than 35 years of design and management experience, Lerner has led the design of numerous award-winning academic, medical and research projects. Recent projects include the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, City University of New York's Advanced Science Research Center, Peking University's School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen, China, and NYU Shanghai.
Building on her knowledge of New York City issues, Lerner has led several large-scale master planning projects focused on issues of major civic concern, such as the New York City Housing Authority’s Sandy Resiliency Program at the Red Hook site in Brooklyn; a master plan for transit-oriented development and a new bus terminal for the Port Authority; and a study for the relocation of Madison Square Garden.
Lerner holds a Bachelor of Architecture with honors from Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. She is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and the past president of AIA New York. She currently serves on the boards of the New York Building Congress, Urban Green Council, Beverly Willis Foundation and Salvadori Center.
Lerner speaks frequently on topics including global practice, academic planning and women’s professional leadership. She has served on many design awards juries, including the 2015 National AIA Honor Awards. After 9/11 she co-chaired the Memorials Process Committee for New York/New Visions.
