ISU student teams receive honorable mentions in international healthcare design competition

AMES, Iowa — Three teams of Iowa State University students majoring in architecture, interior design and industrial design received honorable mentions in the 2015 UIA-PHG (International Union of Architects-Public Health Group) International Student Competition for "Design of a Mobile Isolation, Diagnosis and/or Treatment Unit for Use in Ebola or Other Communicable Disease Epidemics."
Of the 11 international institutions whose students were recognized, Iowa State was the only school with more than one winning entry. Each honorable mention team received $750.
Teams from ISU included:
- Andrew Wallace, Sulphur Springs, Arkansas; Rongchuan Zhang, Shenzhen, China; and Liu Zheng, Marion, all architecture students [Click to view pdf]
- Julie Do, Sioux City, interior design; Evan Jeanblanc, Fort Dodge, architecture; and Hannah Schmaltz, West Des Moines, interior design [Click to view pdf]
- Jaehee Hwang, Daejeon, South Korea, architecture; and Teresa Purnama, Semarang, Indonesia, industrial design [Click to view pdf]
Wallace, Zhang, Zheng, Do, Jeanblanc and Schmaltz were all part of the spring 2015 Health, Healing and Wellness option studio co-taught by architecture Associate Professor Cameron Campbell and interior design Associate Professor Jihyun Song. Hwang and Purnama were part of a spring 2015 studio taught by architecture Assistant Professor Rob Whitehead.
