Snohetta partners to present 2015 Hansen Lecture in Architecture April 15 at ISU

AMES, Iowa — Two leaders of the multinational design firm Snohetta will present the 2015 Richard F. Hansen Lecture in Architecture Wednesday, April 15, at Iowa State University.
In "Snohetta: International Perspectives," founding partner and executive director Craig Dykers and partner Elaine Molinar—who also serves as the firm's managing director of strategic planning and business development—will share selected projects in its portfolio of award-winning work spanning cultural contexts from Asia to Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.
The talk will be at 5:30 p.m. in Kocimski Auditorium, room 101 College of Design. Part of the ISU Department of Architecture Lecture Series, the event is free and open to the public.
Richard F. Hansen Prize
Dykers and Molinar also will serve as guest jurors for the Richard F. Hansen Prize, established in 2004 by Iowa State alumni Richard F. and Barbara E. Hansen and awarded annually to the winner(s) of a design competition held in conjunction with the lecture.
Three individual students and two two-person teams will present projects completed in the fall 2014 architecture third-year studio courses. Presentations will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Hansen Exchange, upper level of the College of Design's King Pavilion, with prize winners announced at the beginning of the lecture.
Interdisciplinary design firm
Snohetta is an Oslo, Norway-based collaborative, interdisciplinary design firm with offices in Australia, France, Germany, Singapore and the United States. It has been recognized with the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, the Mies van der Rohe European Prize for Architecture, the World Architecture Award, the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture and the European Prize for Urban Public Space. In 2013, Fast Company magazine named Snohetta as one of the 10 most innovative architecture companies in the world.
About the speakers
As one of Snohetta's founding partners, Dykers has led the design of many prominent cultural projects, including the New Library of Alexandria in Egypt, the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion in New York City, and the recently completed Ryerson University Student Learning Center in Ontario, Canada. He currently is leading the design of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Expansion, the Times Square reconstruction in New York City and the Calgary Public Library in Alberta, Canada.
Dykers has served as a diploma adjudicator at the Architectural College in Oslo and has been a visiting professor at Syracuse University, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York; Parsons the New School for Design, New York City; and Washington University in St. Louis. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Manufacturers, a member of the American and Norwegian Institutes of Architects and a LEED accredited professional.
Molinar directs Snohetta's 50-person New York office, which takes an integrative approach to architecture, landscape architecture and interior design. Since beginning her career as a designer of the New Library of Alexandria, she has played key roles in many of the firm's notable projects, including the Norwegian National Opera, the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion, the Wolfe Center for the Arts at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, and the recently completed James B. Hunt Library at North Carolina State University, Raleigh.
Molinar received her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of the Norwegian and American Institutes of Architects and a LEED accredited professional. She has served as a studio critic at Syracuse University, Parsons School of Design and FIT. She received the AIA Presidential Citation: Architects of Healing for the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion.
