AMES, Iowa — Kevin Kane, associate dean for research in the Iowa State University College of Design, and Jim Giglierano, ISU Extension and Outreach Community and Economic Development, have been awarded $23,673 per year for three years from AmericaView and the U.S. Geological Survey for their project on "StateView Program Development and Operations for the State of Iowa."

The project will develop a needs assessment for the IowaView Remote Sensing Business Plan; involve students and staff in conducting user surveys of remote-sensing data, training and application needs; and host small gatherings of remote-sensing researchers, producers and user communities (agriculture, local government, state/federal government), Kane said.

In addition to planning activities, the consortium members will continue to maintain and expand the offerings of the remote-sensing datae archives at partner institutions, including the ISU GIS Support and Research Facility and GeoTree at the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls. This includes acquisition and storage of LandSat 8 products and development of GIS-ready derivative products and web services.

AmericaView is a nationwide partnership of remote sensing scientists who support the use of Landsat and other public domain remotely-sensed satellite data through applied remote-sensing research, K-12 and higher STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education, workforce development and technology transfer.
