Iowa artist Jeremy Rudd is guest speaker, exhibition juror April 16-17 at ISU College of Design

AMES, Iowa — Artist, educator and Iowa State University alumnus Jeremy Rudd will return to his alma mater April 16-17 to speak about his varied creative work and serve as the guest juror for the 2015 Senior BFA Exhibition at the ISU College of Design.
Rudd will present "Finding a Way: Making and Meaning" at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in Kocimski Auditorium, 101 Design.
In this free public lecture, Rudd will discuss the process of finding his way as a professional visual artist while navigating the demands of career, family and ambition. He will share his experience working as a liturgical artist on commission and its effects on his personal work. He will conclude by presenting his most recent work, which focuses on metaphors of environment and sustainability, both physical and spiritual.
BFA exhibition reception
Rudd also will serve as the awards juror for the 2015 Senior BFA Exhibition on display April 13-23 in the College of Design's Gallery 181. This all-media exhibition features 60 artworks by 20 students who will receive Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in integrated studio arts from Iowa State in May, August or December.
Viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by special arrangement. A public reception will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the college's Lyle E. Lightfoot Forum and Gallery 181. Rudd will announce several student awards in a brief program beginning at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition and reception also are free and open to the public.
About the speaker
Rudd is an assistant professor of art at Divine Word College, Epworth, and owner of Jeremy Rudd Art and Design, Dyersville. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in integrated studio arts from Iowa State in 2001 and a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, in 2005.
Rudd's visit is cosponsored by the College of Design Art Club, Department of Art and Visual Culture and College of Design Lectures and Exhibitions Committee.
