AMES, Iowa — An exhibition of artwork by Lori Brunner will be on display March 15-30 at the Iowa State University Design on Main Gallery, 203 Main St. in downtown Ames.

"Art + Music = Life2" will feature several abstract paintings that "explore the connection between music and art," said Brunner, an Iowa State associate professor of interior design.

"Universal themes in life that touch on desire, love and life reflection to name a few, are expressed on the canvases. Each painting interprets one musical piece, and the exhibition collection includes a range of music genres that bring to life the lyrics and messages of these handpicked ballads," she said.

Gallery hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Sunday; 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday; noon to 3:30 p.m. Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday. A reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 26, in the gallery at 203 Main St. in downtown Ames. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Brunner's interests and expertise comprise a broad range of subjects, including architecture, design education, urban and regional planning, interior design and the fine arts. Her life and work have been focused on the many scales of design, from the urban environment to the building, from the interior to the object.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in architectural studies and a Master of Urban Planning, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a Master of Fine Art in interior design and a PhD in education, both from Iowa State. "It is this balance between the intuitive and rational, the predictable and random that give meaning to my thoughts, actions, work and language," Brunner said.
