AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State University Bachelor of Design program will host artist Kathranne Knight as its second annual designer-in-residence Feb. 26 through March 3.

During her visit, Knight will lead a public workshop, attend final design reviews for three Bachelor of Design studio courses and present a talk for students in the DES 250: Design Forum seminar.

Knight will teach "Line + Grid + Repetition"—an intensive workshop investigating these three primary principles of design and how they are integral to both the graphic and fine arts—from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, in room 534 College of Design. Note: This has been rescheduled to Friday, March 11, due to illness.

Participants will engage in a discussion of these principles' versatility, utility and function in the history of pictorial language and will produce a set of ink drawings while learning how to generate a strong studio practice through their use. To register for the workshop, contact Kimberly Zarecor, Bachelor of Design program director, zarecor@iastate.edu. Preference will be given to current ISU Bachelor of Design students, but the workshop is open to all.

Knight received a Bachelor of Arts in painting and drawing from the University of Texas at Austin (1992), a postbaccalaureate certificate in painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1993) and a Master of Fine Arts in painting and printmaking from the Yale University School of Art (1997). She has been an artist-in-residence at the Chinati Foundation, Marfa, Texas (1997), and the Connemara Conservancy Foundation, Dallas, Texas (2002).

Knight's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums throughout the US, including Carroll and Sons Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts; Danforth Museum of Art, Framingham, Mass.; Des Moines Art Center; Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams; Muriel Guepin Gallery, Brooklyn, New York, and many others. She has been published in New American Paintings, Northeast Edition.

Knight received an Iowa Artist Fellowship (2015) and Project Grant (2016) from the Iowa Arts Council. As co-publisher of the art press Correspondence Publishing, she is working on the Correspondence Project, a collaboration with poet Lori Shine and master printmaker (and 2008 ISU integrated studio arts alumnus) Asa Wentzel-Fisher of Whole Hog Editions in Ames.
