Landscape architect Jeffrey L. Bruce to speak about emerging green design technologies Feb. 10 at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa —  Landscape architect Jeffrey L. Bruce, FASLA, will present "The Future of Green Infrastructure" at Iowa State University Wednesday, Feb. 10, as part of the ISU Landscape Architecture Lecture Series.

A reception with pizza will begin at 5:20 p.m. in the Lyle E. Lightfoot Forum, followed by the lecture at 6 p.m. in Kocimski Auditorium, room 101 College of Design. Sponsored by (ab)Terris, the landscape architecture graduate student organization, and the Department of Landscape Architecture, the reception and lecture are free and open to the public.

The Kauffmann Center for the Performing Arts, Kansas City, features the largest green roof stormwater detention facility in Missouri. JBC was integral to the program development of this project, which won awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies, ASIC, Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, ASLA Prairie Gateway Chapter and Urban Land Institute Kansas City Chapter.

Bruce is the owner of Jeffrey L. Bruce & Company (JBC), a national landscape architectural firm providing specialized technical support toK leading architectural and landscape architecural firms. JBC project profiles include engineered soils, green roof technologies, urban agronomy, green infrastructure, water harvesting and irrigation engineering.

Luhrie Garden, Millennium Park, Chicago. JBC provided irrigation engineering for the entire park, which won awards from the ASLA, ASIC, GRHC and ASLA Illinois Chapter and a Midwest Construction/McGraw Hill Cultural Award of Merit.

Over the past 25 years, Bruce has received more than 80 design and leadership awards. The firm has received numerous recent awards, including, in 2014, an Honor Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects Prairie Gateway Chapter for the University of Kansas Jayhawk Boulevard Schematic Design; a Merit Award from the ASLA Central States Chapter for Mapleton (Iowa) Sustainable Design and Disaster Recovery; and an Excellence in Irrigation Honor Award for the Gates Foundation Campus, Seattle, and Excellence in Irrigation Merit Award for the NOAA La Jolla (California) Southwest Fisheries Laboratory, both from the American Society of Irrigation Consultants (ASIC).

Bruce is president of ASIC and chair of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, a Certified Irrigation Designer and an EPA WaterSense Certified Professional. He was named a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1996. He has been a guest speaker or visiting critic at more than 200 conferences and trade shows.

Bruce holds a Bachelor of Science in landscape architecture from Iowa State University and a Master of Science in architectural management from the University of Kansas.
