Fatema Nourin

Fatema Nourin is from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Growing up in a densely populated city, she experienced the common urban problems- traffic congestion, waterlogging, unemployment, crime, mismanaged waste disposal etc. Fatema then complemented her urban experience with the undergrad degree in Urban and Regional Planning (URP) from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. Since undergrad, Fatema developed an interest in using GIS as a research tool to address, visualize, estimate, and analyze urban problems. After undergrad, she worked as a Research Associate in the project “REACH: Improving water security for the poor “and learned more about open-source GIS platforms. With her graduate studies, she is exploring more options and techniques to use GIScience as a tool for Urban planning. This summer, she worked with the unevictIA team as a GIS intern and visualized the eviction data in the most populated counties of Iowa.

In the future, she wants to develop a career as a researcher, and so, she is looking forward to continuing her graduate studies in the GIScience field.
