Aminat Adesanya

Aminat Adesanya is a Community & Regional Planning (MCRP) graduate student with a bachelor’s degree in Urban & Regional Planning from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Her overarching goal is to become a highly accomplished scholar-practitioner that will draw on top-notch problem-framing and solution-driven research and analytical skills to develop science-informed policies and solutions to environmental and development problems. For example, her graduating thesis investigated whether, how, and why the physical urban setting of an area affects crime using one of the local government areas with profound and perennial crime incidences and other urban social problems in Lagos. Her research proposed recommendations on how crime can be reduced, and sustained peace and security can be achieved in the study area. As an undergraduate student also, she was exposed to courses and projects on sustainability, community development and professional activities that enriched her practice and community engagement experience as a planner.

Aminat is a registered planner (RTP) with the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria and a corporate member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners. She worked actively as a Town Planner with the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before enrolling for the community and regional planning graduate program. After her studies, she hopes to have acquired the necessary knowledge to analyze and find solutions to pressing urban environmental and health challenges locally and globally.
