Design Extension & Outreach
GIS Short Courses
The ISU Extension & Outreach Geospatial Technology Program offers a series of hands-on short courses in geographic information systems. Courses are held at the ISU Extension Community and Economic Development building in the ISU Research Park, south of the university campus.
Courses are designed for community planners and other public officials who use GIS computer software. View current course descriptions online. Instructors include Bailey Hanson, ISU extension analyst/programmer; Nora Ladjahasan, assistant scientist with the Institute for Design Research and Outreach; and Christopher Seeger, associate professor of landscape architecture and Extension landscape architect.
Fees are generally $250/one-day course and $500/two-day course, and include course tutorials, handouts, snacks and beverages. Lodging and meals are not included. Participants are eligible to receive continuing education units (CEUs), noncredit units awarded at a rate of one CEU for every 10 hours of classroom time. There is an additional $10 fee per course for CEUs.
Advance registration is required, and enrollment is limited to 12 participants per course. Enrollment is not guaranteed unless registration is accompanied by payment in full. Individuals receive a 10 percent discount if enrolled in two or more courses. If two or more people from the same organization register for the same course(s) in the series, each registrant also will receive a 10 percent discount. An organization may reserve all 12 seats for a particular course for a 15 percent discount. View current schedule and registration form.
