Research Interests

Background 

Jacob joined Iowa State College of Design in 2023 after working for more than 10 years in industry. Jacob has worked for multiple fortune 500 companies and his design patents span across varying industries. The industry experience includes various roles including Industrial Design, Product Design Engineer, Graphic Design, Video & Audio Production, Consulting, and Manufacturing Engineering.

Research and Teaching

Jacob’s research interests include: Human Centered Transportation Design, AI Infused Design, Sound Design, and Metaverse Education Environments. He teaches within the department of Industrial Design, including Sophomore Studios(core skills), Senior Studio(advanced skills), and Activity Centered Design lecture course. 

Research Interests

Examining Human Centered Design for Automotive Design, emphasizing electrification and de-featurization of automobiles to allow equitable access to clean transportation. Sound Design to improve safety and User Experience in transportation. Digital environment design and interaction to for inclusive access to secondary education. Creatively advancing film and story telling techniques in a positive and facilitating method to enhance the Industrial Design process.

Current Projects

Industrial Design Brand Ambassadors

Jacob leads the Industrial Design Brand Ambassadors efforts. The Brand Ambassadors communicate with schools, teachers, counselors, and go to events promoting and educating people about the opportunities within Industrial Design. The group also leads the departments marketing and social media efforts.
