Martinson will exhibit 10 or more paintings in oil and acrylic on wood and on canvas, ranging in size from 16 by 20 inches to six by 12 feet. The show will feature portraits of people Martinson has painted from memory, from live models and from photographs.

Located in the heart of the city's Historic Fourth Street District, ISU Design West is a satellite facility of the ISU College of Design. Design West artists-in-residence are granted non-living studio space, a materials stipend and a one-month exhibition at the end of the residency. They host open studio hours and are expected to organize at least one public program during their residency.

Martinson received an associate's degree in graphic design and web design from Western Iowa Tech Community College in 2012 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art from Morningside College this past May. Since June, he has used the facility as an art studio to explore projects that further his creative practice and connect him with the Siouxland community. He plans to apply to a graduate program in art and aspires to teach painting and drawing at the college level.
