Hands-on Practical Experience

Build professional connections, gain experience in the field, or begin accumulating hours required to become a licensed, registered architect. Although not required, students who participate in internships graduate with unique experience and valuable exposure to the profession. Internships are a great way to learn more about an organization, geographic location, or specific area of architecture.

Anyone wishing to take the Architecture Registration Exam (ARE) to become a registered architect must first work professionally as an intern architect for about three years. You may begin working toward fulfilling this requirement by completing an internship after your third year of study in the Bachelor of Architecture degree program.

We support you in understanding the internship pathway through our AXP (Architectural Experience Program) Advisor,  Rob Whitehead.  The AXP advisor can assist students in getting oriented to the NCARB registration process, helping them navigate some of the procedures.

Together with our Career Services Office, these resources will help you find internship opportunities in your preferred location whether domestic or abroad. Our internship and employment website, CyHire is a great resource for beginning your search.
