Passport Application Services

If you or students in your class need to apply for a passport, the US Postal Service will be set up across the hall from the Spring Study Abroad Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, near the post office window on the second floor of the Memorial Union. They will provide the following services: take passport photos, hand out forms, make copies if needed and assist with everything required to complete the application process. Walk-ins will be welcome but appointments are recommended. Read more

Alumni Association Homecoming award Nominations

The ISU Alumni Association seeks nominations for several awards to be given at Homecoming in October: Alumni Medal, Alumni Merit Award, Impact Award, James A. Hopson Volunteer Award and Alumni Service Award. (We already have a nomination from the college for the Outstanding Young Alumni Award.) If you know someone who should be considered for any of these awards, please contact Heather Sauer by Friday, Jan. 19, to allow enough time for the college to prepare a nomination packet before the Feb. 15 submission deadline. Student Employee of the Year Nominations

Nominations for the 2018 ISU Student Employee of the Year award are due by Friday, Feb. 2. Nominees must be undergraduates employed part time on campus for a minimum of six months between June 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018 (anticipated). They will be assessed for reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and unique contributions to the employer. Read more

iowa Lakeside Lab Artist-in-Residence Program Applications

The Iowa Lakeside Laboratory Artist-in-Residence Program invites artists, musicians, composers and performers of all genres to apply for a two- to four-week residency in summer 2018. Residencies include housing, three meals per day and studio space. Apply online before Thursday, March 1. Read more

Fractured Vistas and Mechanical Topographies Exhibition

"Fractured Vistas and Mechanical Topographies: Jody Boyer and Russ Nordman," an exhibition exploring landscape, architecture and a sense of place, will be on display Jan. 16 through Feb. 13 at the ISU Design on Main Gallery, with a public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. The artists will lead a brief discussion of their work at 8 p.m. Read more

Jim Throgmorton Lecture

Iowa City Mayor Jim Throgmorton will speak about his first two years in office and the challenges of responding to unexpected events in a lecture at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the ISU Design on Main Gallery. Read more

Honors, Awards & Publications

Teresa Paschke

"Midwest Facade I" (digitally printed and hand-embroidered textile) by Teresa Paschke, professor of art and visual culture, is part of A Common Thread 2018: Annual Member Exhibition Jan. 8 through March 10 at the Textile Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The work has been featured in a wide range of publicity for the exhibition, including City Pages' weekly "A-list" of art exhibitions.
